With many rock fans up in arms over what they feel are the lack of "true rock acts" in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2020, Troy L. Smith at Cleveland.com has listed "Every Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Ranked From Best to Bon Jovi."
This is not my list, and being a big Bon Jovi fan myself, I completely disagree with him putting Bon Jovi at 227. But, this article certainly sparks fierce debate.
With 227 artists on the list, here are the Top 10 and the bottom 5 (including number-227):
- The Beatles
- Chuck Berry
- Elvis Presley
- James Brown (and The Famous Flames)
- Bob Dylan
- Aretha Franklin
- The Jimi Hendrix Experience
- The Rolling Stones
- Stevie Wonder
- Led Zeppelin
The bottom 5:
223) Del Shannon
224) Electric Light Orchestra
225) Percy Sledge
226) Stevie Nicks
227) Bon Jovi: "There is no band that brings about a crazier debate in my head when it comes to the Rock Hall than Bon Jovi. On one hand, they’re a huge band that was successful for quite some time. On the other hand, I find myself asking the question: If you removed Bon Jovi from existence, would it affect the history of music all that much, if at all? In the end, I’m left with thinking more than any other Rock Hall Inductee, Bon Jovi lowers the bar of induction. The band is adequate, but not exceptional and maybe the reason Nickelback might get in someday. That’s not a good thing."
Those being inducted this year are The Doobie Brothers,T. Rex, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Whitney Houston and The Notorious B.I.G.
With 227 artists inducted, who do you feel are not worthy, or, at the very least, should not be there until other, more established, more successful or more influential artists get their due?
Here are just some of the artist who continue to be snubbed, and have never even been nominated!
Bad Company, Sting, Jethro Tull, Jimmy Buffett, Styx, Boston, Grand Funk, Little Feat,Joe Cocker, New York Dolls, Kansas, Mott the Hoople, John Mayall, Meat Loaf, The Guess Who, BTO, Foreigner, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Peter Frampton, Humble Pie, Procol Harum.
