Grumpy Cat, the Internet's most famous cat who became one of the earliest viral memes, has died at the age of seven.
The grouchy feline's family broke the news on Facebook early this morning saying, "We are unimaginably heartbroken to announce the loss of our beloved Grumpy Cat." Her owner Tabatha Bundesen says Grump Cat, whose real name was Tardar Sauce, developed a urinary tract infection which she never recovered from.
Grumpy Cat instantly went viral in September 2012 after her photo was shared on social media, and became a cultural phenomenon. She is survived by her owner, 1.5 million Twitter followers, 2.4 million Instagram followers and 8.5 million Facebook followers.
So long, Grumpy Cat. Thanks for everything.
