LED ZEPPELIN: Myles Kennedy Dishes on Vocalist Audition

It's almost a decade now since Alter Bridge and Slash and the Conspirators vocalist Myles Kennedy auditioned with Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham for what turned out to be an abortive attempt to restart Led Zeppelin with a different singer.

Kennedy tells Eddie Trunk that they did more than just some Zeppelin classics. He recalls them saying to him, "We have a little time before you have to go back and get on the train. We’ve got some things we’ve been working on; do you want to just sing over the top?" Guess what he said.

Kennedy ended up scatting over "Embryo Number One," one of two song snippets Page introduced later that year in the movie It Might Get Loud. He describes taking part in that as "crazy -- hearing something that no one had heard and getting to sing over the top of it."

Kennedy also remembers two Zeppelin songs he sang while he was there, "No Quarter" and "Kashmir." During those sessions, he looked up and saw that Page was "into it and he enjoyed what was happening.”

Steven Tyler of Aerosmith also auditioned for the slot, but it was reported at the time that his session hadn't gone particularly well.
