Can you believe it's been 50 years since the release of The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album?
Rolling Stone magazine ranked it as the greatest album ever!
All day on Thursday, June 1 we'll be celebrating the release of this remarkable album, which I will play for you in its entirety at noon.
And, get your Pepper on at Wolf Trap on Friday, June 23 when Classic Albums Live performs Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band note for note. BIG 100 will have your tickets throughout the workday on June 1!
Tickets are on sale here.
Plus, special guests checking in throughout the day, including:
- Giles Martin, producer of the Sgt. Pepper 50th anniversary editions and son of legendary Beatles producer George Martin
- Rolling Stone magazine’s Rob Sheffield, author of the new book Dreaming the Beatles
- Scott Freiman, creator and director of the Deconstructing the Beatles: Sgt Pepper documentary
Since the Beatles loved tea, we'll be doing Tea Time with The Beatles Fans, a Facebook Live chat with superfans discussing the Sgt. Pepper album while enjoying afternoon tea. Some of the panel includes local media personalities Sabrina Conte and El Duave; plus a couple of The GoodFellas, the D.C.-based Beatles tribute band. Who knows, our chat could end with a brilliant Beatles sing-along!
To cap off Pepper Day, BIG 100 will present a 90-minute special on the Sgt. Pepper album at 8 p.m. called Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band: All Access. Hear interviews with Paul and Ringo; plus clips of what John and both Georges (Harrison and Martin) thought of Sgt. Pepper. Special guests Phil Collins and Roger Waters discuss the album, along with 50th anniversary producer Giles Martin. And, we'll be sharing plenty of the newly remastered songs and bonus tracks!
Hope you can join us for Pepper Day on BIG 100!
