A stray dog in India may have been rescued from drowning in a river ... by three crocodiles.

Video is floating around the internet that shows a stray dog falling into the River Savirtri -- which is filled with crocodiles.

Normally, this would spell doom for the dog. But instead of attacking the dog, three crocodiles appear to nudge the dog to the shore with their snouts, allowing the dog to escape.

Scientists analyzed the video and have concluded that the rescue mission was an example of "interspecies compassion."

Even though these crocodiles can reach 18 feet long and weigh up to 1000 pounds, the scientists believe this could be a sign of emotional empathy.

Whether or not the crocodiles actually care about other animals, this this one dog is lucky to have stumbled upon the right crocs on the right day.
