Doctor Hog-Tied to Plane Seat for 4 Hours After Threatening Passengers

During a ten-hour flight from Bangkok, Thailand to Moscow, Russia, a Russian anesthetist named Vadim Bondar became "drunk" and belligerent. When he attempted to open an emergency exit while the plane was at 33,000 ft in the sky, passengers stepped in to stop the madness.

Bondar had been reportedly drinking alcohol on the flight and became "foul-mouthed and violent" after trying to open the emergency exit. Flight attendants and other passengers tried to calm the man down but it only seemed to make matters worse. Witnesses say he had two bottles of rum on him even though alcohol was banned in the part of the plane where he had been seated. A Norwegian passenger on the flight finally took matters into his own hands and tackled the doctor to the ground.

With help from some other passengers, Bondar was hog-tied with seat belts where he remained for the final four hours of the flight back to Moscow. Bondar was taken by police on the ground.

The doctor admitted to drinking on the plane, but "only to pass the time while the plane was going through turbulence... Perhaps I asked the flight attendants too often for water. I was told to return to my seat in a rude manner."

Bondar claimed the way he was tied made it difficult to breathe. He also says something was injected into him and that a large sum of money was taken from his carry-on luggage during the flight.

The doctor won't be charged until Russian investigators evaluate the full story. Bondar says he is speaking with lawyers about the way he was treated on the flight.
