Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races is sending off summer with a bang! Guests will find no shortage of entertainment and gaming on Saturday, September 1 as the Sportsbook at Hollywood Casino officially opens, the West Virginia BBQ Festival will be onsite, Sinbad will perform two standup shows at the Event Center, and several gaming promotions and giveaways will be underway!
At 11:00 a.m., Hollywood will launch a state-of-the-art sports betting experience with its brand-new attraction, The Sportsbook at Hollywood Casino. Washington Redskin legend Joe Thiesmann will place the first bet with Senate Finance Committee Chairman Craig Blair, comedian Sinbad, and casino officials as they burst through a ceremonial banner and “go long” to commemorate the event.
“Our guests can’t wait to begin wagering on sports,” said Scott Saunders, General Manager at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races. “This region is a hotbed of both professional sports and college athletics, and we look forward to becoming a destination for fans in West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC.”
Beginning at noon, Hollywood Casino will host and sponsor the first-ever West Virginia BBQ Festival. To recognize this new, annual tradition, Governor Jim Justice has made a proclamation of September 1 as the official West Virginia BBQ Festival Day. Festival-goers will enjoy the region’s top barbeque as 40+ teams compete in the state-wide contest. Enjoy music from several local bands, a VIP tent and beer garden, as well as a large, dedicated Kids Zone to provide fun for the whole family. A portion of the proceeds will benefit three local nonprofits: Protection4Paws, Jefferson High School and Friends Fur Life Animal Rescue. Tickets are available at www.wvbbqfestival.com.
Following the festival at 6:00p.m. and 9:00p.m., Sinbad performs at the Hollywood Casino Event Center for a two-show night of gut-busting standup comedy. Sinbad is ranked among Comedy Central’s “100 Greatest Standups of All Time” and has had audiences in hysterics for more than three decades.
