JOHN LENNON 80: LIVE LIKE LENNON

A New York City penthouse where John Lennon lived in early to mid '70s with his girlfriend May Pang is on the market for $5.5-million.

Located at 434 East 52nd Street, it's where the famous photo of him wearing his New York City cut-off t-shirt was taken in August 1974, and where he claimed to have seen a UFO.

Speaking to Interview magazine, he said, "I was lying naked on my bed, when I had this urge. So I went to the window, just dreaming around in my usual poetic frame of mind … There, as I turned my head, hovering over the next building, no more than 100 feet away was this thing with ordinary electric light bulbs flashing on and off round the bottom, one non-blinking red light on top.”

The 4,000-square-foot co-op overlooks the East River and has five bedrooms, four bathrooms and a 2,000-square-foot landscaped wraparound terrace that's accessible from every room on the main floor.

There's also 14-foot ceilings, a wood burning fireplace, inlaid hardwood floors, a library/media room, an office and a French chef’s kitchen and a formal dining room with its own fireplace.

The apartment was once owned by Edward Germano, owner of the Hit Factory, where Lennon recorded his last album, 1980's Double Fantasy.
