A husband and wife in Costa Rica have taken their love of dogs to extremes by adopting 1,000 strays through the years.
Back in 2006, Lya and Alvaro Battle adopted a couple of dogs from a shelter. Then, they started to notice -- and feel compassion for -- all the stray dogs roaming the streets. So, the couple started bringing them in. It didn’t take long for the family to be caring for more than 100 dogs.
Of course, with all those dogs on the property, space was cramped, so they moved to a 375-acre farm -- and continued to rescue more animals.
Now, their farm, which they call "Land of the Mutts and Strays," is a paradise where the dogs are free to roam and play for the rest of their lives.
