A lost dog is back home and lucky to be alive -- thanks to a good set of brakes on a commuter train and a caring conductor.
A New Jersey Transit conductor was driving the train when he spotted a loose dog running on the tracks. He immediately applied the brakes so he wouldn't hit the pooch, but he wasn't done.
Howard Kempton stepped out of the train, removed his necktie and used it as a makeshift leash to guide the dog off the tracks. He then picked him up and brought him onto the train where a passenger snapped an adorable photo.
Another passenger called a phone number on the dog's collar and reached its owner, who said the dog had gotten loose two hours earlier. She then arranged to meet the train at the next station where she was reunited with her pet.
