CAMERON CROWE: 'ALMOST FAMOUS' MOVIE BEING TURNED INTO BROADWAY MUSICAL

posted by @lisaontheradio -

Almost Famous will be adapted into a stage musical.

Cameron Crowe will handle the script and lyrics, based on his Oscar-winning screenplay. Pulitzer and Tony winner Tom Kitt will join Crowe in composing the original songs.

Released in 2000, the semi-autobiographical film was based on Crowe's experience as a writer for Rolling Stone magazine who traveled with such A-list bands as the Eagles, Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd. IMDB.com ranks it as the fifth most popular film of 2000.

The soundtrack album, featuring classic songs by The Who, Simon and Garfunkel, Yes, Rod Stewart, Elton John and David Bowie, won a Grammy.

It's probably too early to discuss casting.

I'm looking forward to the new original music for the stage musical, but hope they still include the classic rock anthems that appeared in the film.
