One of our loyal listeners, Jen Sadrak, is organizing this event to help dogs who have a horrible and painful disease.
She's managing the American Syringomyelia Alliance Project’s second annual Kicks & Licks dog fundraiser. It will be May 5 at Bluemont Park in Arlington, VA at 11am.
Proceeds will go towards dogs with brain and spinal disorders called Chiari Malformation and Syringomyelia. These painful disorders can cause an array of symptoms from vision trouble to paralysis. Chiari occurs when the back of the skull is too small for the brain, forcing it downward into the spinal canal.
There are over a dozen affected breeds, including the French Bulldog, Boston Terrier, Pug, Pekingese, Chihuahua, Dachshund, Maltese, Bichon Frise, Min Pin, Yorkshire Terrier, Toy Poodle and Brussels Griffon. Primary patients are Cavalier King Charles Spaniels as up to 40% of the breed is affected. These disorders also affect people of all ages.
There will be lots of activities for dogs and families, including pet photography, an agility course, paw painting, raffles, leash lessons, food and lots more.
