Washington, DC (AP) -- A new advertisement in DC for an HIV prevention pill is getting mixed reviews. Some say the ad is effective while others say the city is taking things too far.
The DC Health Department ad depicts close-ups of a person eating ice cream and peeling a banana, among other things, and some are arguing it is sexually suggestive. The ad is promoting a pill that helps prevent people from getting HIV.
Mayor Muriel Bowser says she wants to reduce the number of new HIV infections by half by 2020. Ten years ago, about four people a day were diagnosed, but that number dropped to less than one in 2016.
