Bono says U2 have basically finished recording Songs of Experience and, in fact, have three more tracks than will go on the album.
He tells Rolling Stone that they need to whittle 15 completed songs down to 12, since they "don't like long players." He feels that while "the actual track listing is not set yet," they have some "proper [buzz]-off songs," including the new cut they've been playing on tour, "Little Things That Give You Away."
Bono adds that he's not the most reliable source of when a U2 album is ready, since he thought this one was done last year. He says the other band members "will tell you not to listen to me on those kind of matters." But he's willing to admit they've made the album better by continuing to work on it. That said, he worries that "if you left it to Edge he'd still be remixing it next year." Bono would like to see it out before then.
He says they expect to tour behind the album using the same basic staging ideas as on the Songs of Innocence tour, but "inverted," so that Songs of Experience becomes the focus.
