U2 returns to the road tonight (Friday) with the first show of the Joshua Tree 30th anniversary tour.
As they did on the Innocence + Experience tour two years ago, opening night is in Vancouver, Canada. But instead of the Rogers Arena, they're across the street at the BC Place Stadium.
The tour promises another visual spectacle, but the band's longtime creative director, Willie Williams, tells Entertainment Weekly that it won't overshadow the music.
Photographer Anton Corbijn, who shot the album artwork, has created films to accompany each track on The Joshua Tree. Williams calls them "breathtaking.”
From Vancouver the band will head south to Seattle for a show on Sunday. In all, U2 will do 21 shows in North America, wrapping up on July 1st in Cleveland, followed by 12 in Europe, from July 8th in London through August 1st in Brussels.
THE TOUR COMES TO FED EX FIELD ON JUNE 20!
