A startup in California is trying to sell a chance to reserve a vacation on the moon.
Yep, the moon!
This year NASA is finally sending a team of astronauts to the moon for the first time in 53 years, and Galactic Resource Utilization Space is trying to get ahead in making a profit.
GRU Space, is a tech startup that’s trying to build habitats on the surface of the moon. Now before you say FyreFest, their plan will include inflatable structures by 2031, and hotels by 2032. The hotels will be built here on Earth and delivered by heavy lander on the moon. The hotels would be suitable to house up to four people for multi-day stays throughout the year. On their website it states.
“Designed to operate for 10 years, the hotel offers views of the lunar landscape and Earth, along with envisioned experiences such as surface experiences including Moonwalks, driving, golfing, and other activities,”
GRU Space is offering lunar vacations for a $1M fee, and the first humans to vaca on the moon will have to reserve their spot with minimal deposit of $250K to $1M, since full price could exceed $10M. Now that only buys you the chance to go, customers still have to be chosen, and take on “specific mission roles and lunar stays.”
