A new TV commercial from Gillette that engages the #MeToo movement is receiving mixed reviews from both men and women.
The ad makes a play on the company's longtime tagline, "The best a man can get," asking instead, "Is this the best a man can get?” It includes news clips about the #MeToo movement and shows scenes displaying sexism, bullying, violence and sexual harassment. The ad then asks men to shave their "toxic masculinity."
The reaction to the ad has been mixed with many criticizing it for emasculating men and suggesting Gillette stick to grooming and not social issues. Others commended the company, saying the time is right for such an ad to change longstanding stereotypes and expectations of what it means to be a man.
