Gene Simmons' L.A. Vault Experience, promoting his career-spanning $2,000, 10-disc box set The Vault, took place on Saturday at Capitol Studios and it lived up to its name -- it was an experience.
Simmons was joined by original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley, later KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick and current KISS drummer Eric Singer for the eight hour event, which included performances and plenty of story-telling. Much of it was captured on video, including Frehley and Simmons' impromptu acoustic versions of "Shock Me," "Rocket Ride" and "New York Groove," as well as "Parasite" and "2000 Man" played by Frehley, Kulick, Singer and Simmons. Much of it has been posted to YouTube.
Simmons plans to do Vault Experiences in many other cities and plans to hand deliver each copy of the limited-edition set to its purchaser. The next Experience is in Detroit on January 20th. In related news, he said in an interview that he's been speaking with a broadcaster about doing more episodes of his Simmons Family Jewels reality TV series.
