LYNYRD SKYNYRD'S Van Zant Did Not Have a Heart Attack

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Contrary to an earlier story from Rapid City, South Dakota, Lynyrd Skynyrd singer Johnny Van Zant did not suffer a heart attack.

We contacted the band's management, who told us that what happened was that guitarist Garry Rossington, the last surviving original member of the band, had an arterial blockage that was corrected by the insertion of stents on Friday. He has been ordered to rest, leading the band to cancel shows through Thursday.

The next Skynyrd performance is set for Friday in Virginia Beach.
