Tis The Season For SCAMS!

  • Holiday-Themed Phishing.Hackers will expand their normal attempts to get your personal information to include holiday-related scams. A common example is fake package delivery notices.
  • Malicious E-Cards.Cybercriminals send out emails claiming to contain a digital greeting card to get you to click on a malicious link.
  • Fraudulent Charities. Hackers attempt to take advantage of your holiday spirit by setting up fake charity websites and sending phishing emails with donation requests linking to a malicious site.
  • Fake Discounts/Coupons. Criminals send out emails containing fake discounts and coupons around this time of year in an attempt to access your money and data.

So what should I do?

  • Pay By Credit Card. This allows you to dispute charges and avoid financial loss if you are scammed.
  • Verify Links. Fake emails and social media ads can contain links that look legitimate. Hover your mouse over the link and click it only if you’re certain it’s a legitimate site.
  • Research Unfamiliar Vendors Online. Search for their names with terms like “scam,” “complaints” or “reviews,” and look them up on sites such as the Better Business Bureau.

Report Suspicious Emails. In Outlook, click on the“Report Message”button in the upper right corner of the toolbar and select“Phishing.”
