BILLY JOEL: CELEBRATING B-DAY 75 WITH A GARDEN PARTY

Billy Joel will mark his 75th birthday today the same way he marked his 70th -- with a show in his monthly residency at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Joel's 70th birthday on May 9th, 2019 featured video messages from PinkBrian Johnson of AC/DCDon Henley and Paul McCartney. Joel's daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, joined him for "New York State of Mind," and Peter Frampton guested on his own songs "Show Me the Way" and "Baby I Love Your Way" plus the show closer, Joel's "You May Be Right."

The show for Joel's 75th is likely to be just as star-studded, and it will be the third-to-last for his residency at the Garden. The remaining dates are June 8th and July 25th.

Some handy facts about the man turning 75:

  • William Martin Joel might be an icon of Long Island, but he was actually born in The Bronx, New York on May 9th, 1949. 
  • Joel, a 1993 inductee of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, has racked up 33 Top 40 hits, three of which reached number-one -- "It's Still Rock and Roll to Me," "Tell Her About It" and "We Didn't Start the Fire."
  • He's had 11 Top 10 albums, with four chart-toppers -- 1978's 52nd Street, 1980's Glass Houses, 1989's Storm Front and 1993's River of Dreams
  • Joel has won five Grammys, plus a Tony Award for Best Orchestrations for Movin' Out, the 2002 Broadway musical based on his songs.
