Dee Snider wants everyone to stop confusing “singers” with “frontmen.” The Twisted Sister frontman recently got into an online debate with fans, in which he corrected people’s opinions about the band roles being the same thing.

"There is a huge difference between a great frontman & a great singer,” Snider wrote, before calling out the late Ronnie Dio and Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant for being great singers, but not great performers.

Snider said Dio, who he thinks is “one of the greatest singers of all time,” really “just stood on stage and sang” instead of actually perform. And as for Plant, Snider said “"I'm a HUGE Plant fan vocally...but he showed me nothing as a performer. Looked amazing, great hair...stood on stage with one hand raised and sang his a** off. Not a frontman in my opinion.” As much as he loved both rockers, he said, they weren’t on the same level as Freddie Mercury and Mick Jagger in terms of performance.

Snider’s lesson in rock left more than a few fans feeling a little turned-off. “I knew this would upset people,” wrote Snider, before clarifying that “FYI many great frontmen are not great singers.”

What do you think? Is there a big difference between singers and frontmen/frontwomen?

How do you feel about Dee's comments?
