MORE ON HENRY HERE

Henry is a special needs pup.

Henry is blind, but he fools everyone he meets because he navigates super well in the home and outside. He is totally blind in his left eye, but the rescue thinks he can see some light and shadows in his right. Sometimes he bumps into things, but he can go up and down stairs without any issues!

Poor Henry was found abandoned in the woods of rural VA. It is a miracle that this blind pup was able to survive out there on his own! Henry is an incredibly sweet and loving dog. He is a goofball who loves to play and run in the yard but is also happy to cuddle up in a corner or snuggle up to your legs in what his foster calls a "Henry Hugs."

Like a typical hound:

  • Henry needs lots of exercise, at least a couple of hours a day
  • He loves to sniff, and sometimes his houndy nose takes over, and has strong opinions on where he wants to go.
  • While usually quiet, Henry does bark like a hound.

Walking him while carrying high-value treats helps a great deal. He is happy to spend much of the day napping and/or exploring the yard. Henry has a very strong preference for being outside and he will try to escape a yard to follow the interesting scents that he picks up, so it is important that his new home have a well-built fence.

Like most pups, and especially blind pups, Henry does not like to be startled awake while sleeping or being approached when he feels the most vulnerable. Henry does well meeting other people and dogs in low stress environments but he is not a fan of loud and crowded places like dog parks.

Henry has a heart of gold and he will make a fantastic pet if he can find a home where can be outside, get his exercise, and spend some time giving his loving parents Henry Hugs.

Given his blindness, changes are tough for him. His ideal home would be a quiet one with a secure fenced in yard, where his adopters would be gentle, patient, and nurturing as he settles into his new forever space, especially in the first few weeks of being in a new home and while he's mapping his new environment.
