JIMI HENDRIX: NEW LIVE RELEASE FROM THE VAULT

Billy Gibbons wasn't only a fan of Jimi Hendrix, but they were also friends. So, who better to help promote the latest concert release from the Hendrix vault, The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Los Angeles Forum: April 26, 1969, since the ZZ Top guitarist was at that show.

Gibbons has narrated a nine-minute video titled I Was There, in which he recounts the night.

He says Hendrix took the stage to little fanfare and “stepped up and invited the crowd to imagine being in church, and to think of the ceiling as an open sky... And then it began: Man, it was loud, fast and furious...

"What unfolded thereafter was firsthand evidence of how Jimi Hendrix had figured out to do things on a Fender Stratocaster that had obviously never been imagined by the designers...

“He was a virtual groundswell of previously unknown techniques. [His] ferociousness was unequaled. ... The Jimi Hendrix Experience lit the house up and tore it right down..."

Hendrix met up with Gibbons after the show and asked him what he thought.

“It was such a singular performance. All I could manage to say was ‘Jimi, I am floored and I am fixed.’”
