Mötley Crüe, Iron Maiden Are Leading Vote-Getters So Far For Rock Hall 2022

Fans of several long-snubbed artists are already making their voices heard regarding who should be enshrined in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year.

While the Hall won't announce the 2022 nominees until January, an early tally of some 23,000 votes from visitors to the museum in Cleveland has Mötley Crüe and Iron Maiden leading the pack in first and second place, respectively, in terms of public opinion.

The informal poll doesn't count towards induction but serves as a suggestion to the selection committee. The duo of iconic heavy metal acts are followed in the top 10 rankings by Pat Benatar, Blink-182, Dave Matthews Band, Dolly Parton, Weezer, Cher, Styx and Boston.

Mötley Crüe's spot at the top of the fan-voting is significant because, despite being one of the biggest rock bands of the '80s, the band has never been officially nominated for induction into the Rock Hall.

Bassist and co-founder Nikki Sixx said in a 2019 interview that the band was once "told by the Hall of Fame that we would never get in, because of how we've acted, so that's kind of it."

Of course the Rock Hall has never confirmed Sixx's claim, but it would certainly look more credible next year if the band is again left out of the nominee pool after being the most-frequently suggested act.

Iron Maiden, one of the most successful and influential heavy metal bands of all-time, has been one of the Rock Hall's single most glaring omissions since becoming eligible for induction in 2005.

When Maiden was not inducted last year (after being among the finalists), it set off another firestorm of criticism against the Rock Hall's selection process.

For what it's worth, the members of Iron Maiden weren't hurt by the snub. Frontman Bruce Dickinson has previously described the Rock Hall as a "mausoleum in Cleveland."

Other notable fan choices in the top 20 for 2022 are "Weird" Al Yankovic, Snoop Dogg, Rage Against the Machine, TOOL, Jethro Tull, Alice In Chains and Ozzy Osbourne (solo).

This past October, the Rock Hall inducted Carole King, Todd Rundgren, the Go-Go's, Foo Fighters, Tuna Turner (solo) and Jay-Z.
