A shocking moment was captured on CCTV video in China after a young boy dropped a firecracker into the sewer in his neighborhood while atop the manhole cover.
Security footage shows a group of children playing outside in the north-western Chinese province of Gansu when one of them approaches the sewer.
They boy squats down and lights a firecracker and it suddenly explodes in flames, blowing the manhole cover off and launching the boy about 10 feet into the air.
The child lands on his rear end and sits up and looks around. He reportedly suffered no injuries.
Such occurrences happen when flammable methane is released from sewage and saturates the air beneath the manhole covers, which can weigh around 250 lbs.
