The annual Run for the Animals to benefit Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary in Poolesville will be happening this weekend as a virtual race!

Sign up at animalsanctuary.org, and then do the run or walk on your own...when you want, where you want!

The race is scheduled for Sunday morning, but the beauty of a virtual race is you can do it whenever! I did my walk a couple of weeks ago. You can also sign up and do your walk or run any time over the next few weeks. Normally the race is a 5k. You can do that distance, or whatever distance you're most comfortable doing.

Feel free to post a picture or video of yourself completing your run or walk on the Poplar Spring 'Virtual 5k Run for the Animals' Facebook page here. And print out a Certificate of Achievement here.

The race supports the more than 250 rescued animals at Poplar Spring. If you're inspired, do some additional fundraising! Prizes will be awarded to the top two fundraisers.

Since the race is scheduled for Sunday, May 17, on that day at 1 p.m. Terry Cummings, co-founder of Poplar Spring, will be giving a virtual tour of the sanctuary via Facebook Live.

I was lucky enough to visit Poplar Spring a few weeks ago and met some of the rescued animals. I've been posting videos here at wbig.com, and also on my social media pages, so be sure and check them out at Lisa Berigan On The Radio on Facebook and @lisaontheradio on twitter and Instagram.
