Tyler Perry Pays For Seniors' Groceries At 74 Grocery Stores

Tyler Perry surprised elderly and high-risk shoppers by paying for their groceries amid the global health crisis.

On Wednesday (April 8), the entertainment mogul graciously picked up the grocery tabs of dozens of seniors at 44 stores across Atlanta and 30 stores in his hometown of Louisiana.

“CONFIRMED: @tylerperry paid for all groceries during Seniors Hour at 44 Atlanta-area @Kroger stores. Look at these faces — you can see the smiles and tears through the masks!” WXIA 11Alive’s Brendan Keefe wrote on Twitter. “He performed a similar act of kindness in his native Louisiana, 11Alive’s New Orleans sister station also learned."

Janette Maas, a 61-year-old retired airline pilot, told AJC she had just finished her weekly shopping during the 7 a.m. seniors-only hour on Wednesday when she saw that the self check-out lanes were closed. She said she thought something was wrong but a cashier then told her an anonymous donor had covered her $60 in groceries, and her receipt said “Atlanta Angel.”

Janette told the outlet that she later found out that Tyler was the said "Angel" and was thinking of finding a Madea movie to watch later as thank you.

Tyler's latest act of generosity comes just days after he gave away $21,000 to 42 out-of-work servers — $500 each — at an Atlanta Houston's restaurant.
