Green Day Takes Aim At Society's Social Media Obsession In 'Oh Yeah!' Video

After weeks of teasing fans with a new song, on Thursday (January 16) Green Day released the video for its new song “Oh Yeah!”

The new single, which was formally called “Bulletproof Backpack,” is the third song on Father of All... following the title track and “Fire, Ready, Aim.”

The “Oh Yeah!“ video opens with Tré Cool giving a tutorial on how to play the new track and while a fan is watching the clip, he runs into Billie Joe Armstrong — literally… with his car. The video then follows people being glued to their social media apps as the band performs the song.

The video seems to be showcasing the influence of social media in the lives of people of all ages along with society's obsession with always being online and getting attention.

“Everybody is a star (Star)/ Got my money and I'm feeling kinda low (Feeling kinda low)/ Everybody got a scar (Scar/ Ain't it funny how we're running out of hope?” Armstrong sings in the chorus.

“I just feel like with all of the chaos going on, no-one ever hesitates to take a good selfie,” Armstrong previously explained about the meaning behind the above lyrics. As for the song as a whole, Armstrong told Kerrang!: “It’s sort of about being freaked out around the polarisation that we live in right now. Whether it’s kids getting shot in schools, or the closest thing that America has ever seen to fascism. Light stuff…”

Father of All... is scheduled for a February 7, 2020 release and is available for pre-order here

In celebration of the album, Green Day is looking for fans who have huge backyards to have a jam sesh that won't disturb the neighbors.

If you happen to not get chosen to have the band play in your backyard, Green Day will also be heading out on the Hella Mega Tour— a massive stadium tour with Weezer and Fall Out Boy slated to kick off this summer.
