Interesting set of nominees for the Rock Hall in 2020. Breaking it down...
As a fan, I'd like to see Pat Benatar, Judas Priest, Todd Rundgren, Soundgarden, and Thin Lizzy get in. Pat just flat out earned it. Not surprising that the Rock Hall left her collaborator, guitarist and husband Neil Giraldo off the list. Judas Priest? Come on. Metal stalwarts, songs for the ages, hits, and influence. Crazy they're not in. They were nominated a couple of years ago but apparently didn't receive many votes. Encouraging that they're back on the list. Todd Rundgren makes the cut for me not only for his early output as an artist, but take a look at his production credits! Soundgarden. Earned it and then some. Thin Lizzy. One of those bands that hard core rock fans revere, but the general public doesn't know beyond a song or two. You know how people say "crack a book," or "mix in a salad?" Dig a little bit on Thin Lizzy. It'll enrich you.
Predicting who'll get in, as in, figuring out what the actual voters will do, I'm going with Pat, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Todd & Soundgarden.
Now, if I actually *had* a vote and it was my JOB to make unbiased selections for this thing? Pat, again, The Doobie Brothers (hard to argue with their output), Priest, Todd, NIN & Soundgarden.
Dave Matthews Band? Deserving, but too soon.
All in all an encouraging list of nominees. Should be a good ceremony.
