Health is everything! After having been a lifelong athlete, certified yoga instructor and mom to three amazing children, life threw me a curveball. I survived a life-threatening cardiac event roughly three years ago. It was then that I was fortunate to begin a very special relationship with Suburban Hospital (part of Johns Hopkins Medicine).
I have become a patient advocate spokesperson and an active visitor of patients through my involvement with Mended Hearts and the Patient and Family Advisory Council. This allows me the opportunity to volunteer in the Intensive Care Unit and Cath Lab where I offer support to heart patients and their families.
I recently completed a certification in Cardiac Yoga offered in conjunction with the University of Virginia. I have presented my story of health, healing and giving-back at conferences including those of the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, Mended Hearts, The Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the Foundation for the Advancement of Cardiothoracic Surgical Care.
I continue to focus on health and healing as I am the Assistant Manager at Truebody, a new state-of-the-art fitness facility in Bethesda, MD.
My experience reminds me daily of the importance of honoring our body's limitations but finding enjoyment and success in what we are capable of accomplishing.
