Elton John Thanks Neil Diamond for Helping His Career

Two legendary performers announced their farewells to touring this week. Both Neil Diamond and Elton John released statements regarding their exits from the road, but under different circumstances. Diamond was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and cancelled his tour while Elton John is calling it quits after a massive 3-year farewell trek across the globe.

In the announcement for Elton's farewell tour, he thanked Diamond for helping him out early in his career:

I would like to pay my respects to him. He introduced me off his own back at the Troubadour because he loved my record. He was a huge star then, and he's a huge star now. And I know that he's said he's not going to tour anymore because he has Parkinson's. I'm going to contact to him personally, but I would like to say publicly that I love him and I can't thank him enough for what he did for me along the way.

Many fans of Neil Diamond chose to donate the money they received for ticket refunds to Parkinson's research and animal welfare. Diamond tweeted, "This makes me smile. Thank you. Thank you to everyone for your outpouring of love and support. It makes a difference."
