Halloween is approaching, and what better way to celebrate than to recognize some of the best scary music videos in rock music? We're not talking about KISS without makeup or the hairdos and attire of hair metal, we're talking about music videos with creepy clowns, slasher movie villains, eerie dolls and the like.
10. Stone Temple Pilots - Vasoline
The boys of STP start our list with this video featuring a clown in a dark alley, cockroaches, and vocalist Scott Weiland in a suit and top hat moving around like a demented person. Not to mention the over-saturated colors and weird picture distortion.
9. Dokken - Dream Warriors
1980s rockers Dokken were tasked to write the title song for 1987's A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. The song fits the movie perfectly, with lyrics alluding to what happens when you fall asleep when Freddy Kruger is around. The music video is seamlessly integrated with clips from the film, with guitarist George Lynch busting out of a wall where the main character is to rip a face-melting solo on a skeleton guitar in front of her, only to be pulled back through by Freddy.
8. The Cure - Lullaby
This 1989 track from Robert Smith's goth rock band is probably not a lullaby you would sing to your children. The song's lyrics center around a spider-man that is coming to capture and eat Smith and the accompanying music shows him trapped in bed while spiderwebs slowly encase him through the course of the song. The video ends as Smith is finally devoured by a massive spider.
7. Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun
The video for Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" is just unsettling. It pictures the typical American middle class doing normal things with weird, exaggerated smiles before the Apocalypse hits, with swarms of locusts, melting dolls, and everyone being sucked into a black hole.
6. Alice Cooper - He's Back (The Man Behind the Mask)
Alice Cooper provided the theme song for Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives and the music video shows Alice at his best. Two teens go to see the movie and he jumps out through the screen as clips from the movie are show. It's Alice Cooper and Jason. What more do you need?
