Fourth of July weekend is coming up and Americans will be celebrating our independence with fireworks, cookouts and drinking -- a lot of drinking. But the booze will be flowing more in some parts of the country than others.
Using research conducted by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, all 50 states and Washington, D.C., have been ranked in order of alcohol consumption per capita, each year. Leading the way is New Hampshire with more than 4.6 gallons of booze consumed per capita. They're followed by Washington, D.C (#2); Delaware, Nevada, and North Dakota.
Virginia ranked #41 and Maryland ranked #42. I always thought those of us in the DMV enjoyed adult beverages as much as anyone. (I guess those in DC are drinking enough for all of us!)
Pulling up the rear, perhaps unsurprisingly, is Utah at just over 1.3 gallon of alcohol per person.
