Protesters in Baltimore ripped down a statue of Christopher Columbus near Little Italy and dumped it into the Inner Harbor on the 4th of July.
Numerous videos show the statue being torn down via a chain wrapped around it and it being pulled down, breaking that statue. It was then dragged to the nearby Inner Harbor and pushed into the water.
The group of protesters also passed through Fells Point and Harbor East's Ouzo Bay, where 9-year-old Dallas Grant and his mother were denied entry to the restaurant in what some believe was because of their race.
Police maintained presence near the protesters but kept their distance from the group.
The Columbus statue was carved from marble and was dedicated in 1984 by then-president Ronald Reagan and then-mayor William Donald Shaefer.
Former state legislator John Pica Jr. visited the scene where the statue was removed on Saturday night and was displeased in what happened. "We are very disappointed with the Baltimore City Police who watched it all happen. We were working with the city for the last two weeks to relocate the statue to a safe place. This was the city’s way of relocating the statue."
