BEATLES: 50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AT ABBEY ROAD CROSSING

Thousands of Beatles fans from around the world descended onto the St. John's Wood section of London yesterday to celebrate the 50th anniversary of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr walking across Abbey Road for the cover photo of their album of the same name.

Many were dressed as the Fab Four from that day, and of course there were numerous sing-alongs, as well as the tribute band Fab Four, who arrived in a replica of Lennon's psychedelic Rolls Royce. There was even a proposal as a fan dressed like McCartney asked his girlfriend to marry him in the middle of the crossing.

There were so many people that buses had to be detoured.

And Abbey Road Studios, just up the street, allowed people to gather in its parking lot, where a cardboard backdrop of the crossing from August 8th, 1969 was set up for folks to re-enact the historic moment.

The anniversary wasn't lost on Paul McCartney, who posted a photo from that day taken by his wife Linda. And Pattie Boyd, George's first wife, posted a photo on her Instagram page taken by a friend who was there.

The Beatles will release a 50th anniversary edition of Abbey Road on September 27th.
