The Cure Are Headed to the Studio

Speaking with BBC 6 Music, Robert Smith of The Cure revealed that he had booked time for the band to return to the studio in May 2018 to record new music.

Smith was recently tapped to curate the 25th annual Meltdown Festival in London and says the experience inspired him to write new music. "Funnily enough, doing this Meltdown thing has actually galvanized me and I've booked studio time for the band," he said.

Some of the lineup of the 10-day Meltdown Festival was revealed in March and includes appearances by the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Deftones, My Bloody Valentine, The Psychedelic Furs and more. The festival takes place June 15-24 at London's Southbank Centre.

It's been a decade since The Cure released a studio album, 2008's 4:13 Dream and nearly 40 years since the band's first record was released.
