Brazilian Gang Leader Tries to Escape Prison By Disguising Himself as Woman

A Brazilian gang leader tried to pull a slick move to escape from a high-security prison by disguising himself as a woman.

Authorities say 42-year-old Clauvino da Silva donned a silicone mask, a wig, glasses and girls clothing as a disguise and tried to walk right out of the prison before guards noticed something didn't seem right. They recorded a video of da Silva taking off the props, revealing a stout looking tattoo'ed man underneath.

Funny thing is, Clauvino almost got away with it. His 19-year-old daughter came to the prison to visit him and she planned to stay in prison to allow her father to escape.

Prison officials believe another woman, who was pregnant, visited da Silva before this and smuggled in the disguise for him. It's standard prison policy in Brazil that pregnant women are not searched.

da Silva was apparently was a leader in the "Red Command" criminal group, an organization responsible for a high amount of drug trafficking in Rio de Janeiro.

For his actions, da Silva is being transferred to a maximum-security facility and will face further discipline. His daughter may be charged as being an accomplice for the escape attempt.
