NFL Asking Musicians to Pay to Play Super Bowl Halftime Show

NFL Asking Musicians to Pay to Play Super Bowl Halftime Show

Over 115 million people watched Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers not play during this year's Super Bowl halftime show.  That is compared to the 112.2 million who watched the actual game.

For many artists, the Super Bowl halftime show can serve as a launching pad for an album release or a tour.

Now, the NFL wants a cut of that.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the NFL suggested that artists "be willing to contribute a portion of their post-Super Bowl tour income to the league."

It is unclear exactly who has been asked, but the article says that Coldplay, Rihanna, and Katy Perry are the top choices for the slot.

The NFL does not pay halftime performers, but they do cover expenses.
