"We didn't want it to be a joke."

Queen drummer Roger Taylor is explaining why actor Sasha Baron Cohen left the movie about the band's late singer, Freddie Mercury.

Cohen is best known for comedic characters like Borat.  It is assumed that the members of Queen knew that before Cohen signed on to the project.

He left the project in July citing "creative differences."  At the time, it was reported that those differences were about how the story would be told.

Now, Taylor is telling his side of the story to MOJO.  Taylor explains, "We felt Sacha probably wasn’t right in the end. We didn’t want it to be a joke. We want people to be moved."

Taylor also mentioned a collaboration between Mercury and Michael Jackson.  Taylor says that he and guitarist Brian May also worked on the project.  He says, "They'll come out as Queen and Michael Jackson, hopefully...If the Michael Jackson estate can get its arse into gear."
